Our Story

Established in 2009, Eight Bells Winery joined friends Tim Bates, Andy Shepherd, Frank Michiels and their decades of winemaking experience into a singular effort to produce high quality wines that reflect the uniqueness and subtlety of the vineyard.

But what makes us different - the simple answer is that we focus on just two of Washington’s famous vineyards – Red Willow and Boushey - and then only on specific blocks within each vineyard. By knowing the terroir, microclimate and nuances within each block we are able to pick the fruit at the exact ripeness and maturity that we’re looking for. This allows us to produce wines that exhibit the depth, flavors and consistency that are our hallmark.

Making wine is just part of the effort here at Eight Bells. Communication and the membership experience are also a big part of our winery. Taylor Nordby (Frank’s daughter) is our link between the winery and our customers. Along with communications, she and her husband, Kip, bring an artistic flair which ensures that we will stay relevant and progressive for decades to come.
